Metformin Hcl, a widely used anti-diabetic drug has potential efficacy as an anti-cancer drug. Metformin inhibits the proliferation of a range of cancer cells including prostate, colon, breast, ovarian, and glioma lines.;IC50 Value: 2.45 uM (A-ESCs cell); 7.87 uM (N-ESCs cell); 5 mM (PC-3 cell) [1] [3];Target: Anticancer; In vitro: Metformin inhibited proliferation of ESCs in a concentration-dependent manner. The IC50 was 2.45ummol/l for A-ESCs and 7.87ummol/l for N-ESCs. Metformin increased AMPK activation levels (p-AMPK/AMPK) by 2.0?0.3-fold in A-ESCs, 2.3-fold in A-ESCs from the secretory phase, and 1.6-fold in the proliferation phase [1]. Metformin decreased glycogen synthesis in a dose-dependent manner with an IC50 value of 196.5 mM in cultured rat hepatocytes [2]. Average cell viability and cytotoxic effects of metformin were investigated at 24 hour intervals for three days using the xCELLigence system. The IC50 dose of metformin in the PC-3 cells was found to be 5 mM [3].;In MedChem Express HY-17471A
