R-(-)-Deprenyl Hydrochloride is a selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B).;Target: Monoamine oxidase B(-)-Deprenyl (selegiline) is an irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAO) B. (-)-Deprenyl in much lower concentrations needed to induce MAO-B inhibition (10(-9) to 10(-13) M) potently inhibits MPTP or serum withdrawal induced apoptosis in tissue cultures of neuro-ectodermal origin (PC12, M1, M2058) [1]. when locomotor activity induced by levodopa was examined on a rodent model of Parkinson's disease, pretreatment of the animals with nonselective doses of deprenyl caused an enhancement of the antiparkinsonian action of levodopa [2]. (-)Deprenyl is a highly potent and selective, irreversible inhibitor of B-type monoamine oxidase (MAO), a predominantly glial enzyme in the brain. The activity of this enzyme significantly increases with age. (-)Deprenyl, the first selective inhibitor of MAO-B described in the literature, has become a universally used research tool for MedChem Express HY-14199
