I use Google Reader to read blog posts. It’s great. The PROBLEM I have with blogs is when I want to receive comments on comments I have made on a blog. I waste a lot of time going back to blog posts to see whether the author of the original post has commented on my comments. It is a real time hog. Maybe I should stop commenting…it would be less time-consuming.

I think ALL blog hosts should allow users to Subscribe for Comments. What is this? I noticed it on David Bradley’s ScienceBase blog and we added it tonight. Look at the screenshot below and notice the red highlight. Now if you post a comment to the blog check this box and if new comments are received on this particular blog post then you will receive an email about the new comment.

    Hope the plugin turns out to be useful. Of course, there’s always the comments rss feed for any comment thread if a site doesn’t have a dedicated subscribe to comments button. And, if you’re commenting on WordPress-hosted blogs and you’re logged into a WordPress-hosted WordPress account you can track those comments via your WordPress-hosted Dashboard.

    If you don’t run blogging software that has the ‘notify’ feature, the RSS comments feed that David mentioned is a good option.

    When used together w/ Feedburner, you can subscribe via email to the comments in a blog in daily digest form.

    I’ve used it and it works nicely.

    And last but not least, check out http://co.mments.com. You get a bookmarklet that you just click whenever you want to track comments. It’s amazing.

    That comment tracker option also showed up on all Blogger accounts recently and it makes so much easier to keep track of discussions since so many people use it.
