The structure for tropanone is incorrect. It is a symmetrical alkaloid with the ketone group at C-3, as synthesized by Robinson in 1917.
Prof. G.A. Cordell Thank you for you feedback. Looking at this I think that Tropanone is not a terrible general name as this is a ketone of tropane. However, this record is better named with a locant specifiying the position of the ketone, which helps to distinguish this structure from Tropinone (the structure to which you refer, http://www.chemspider.com/393722) - which could be described as tropan-3-one). |
